Our centre is located at the University Hospital 'St. George' in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, for screening, diagnostic workup and treatment of breast cancer and benign breast diseases. More than 2000 women are being examined annually in this center, among which more than 200 breast cancer new cases are being diagnosed and treated there. Diagnostic imaging is performed by a modern digital mammography machine, ultrasound with elastography and microvascular Doppler technique and 1,5T MRI unit with breast coil and software for dynamic studies. Surgery is carried out in the thoracic surgery clinic. Intra-operative radiotherapy can also be performed. Two surgeons, a reconstructive plastic surgeon, a radiologist, a nuclear medicine radiologist, an oncologist and two dedicated nurses, work for the center. Presurgical evaluation of patients includes clinical examination, mammography, ultrasonography, MRI if indicated, fine needle aspiration biopsy and core biopsy. Excised tumors and lymph nodes are histologically examined by a pathologist and immunohistochemical evaluation for ER-, PR- and HER-receptors is done.
