In May 1994, at the birth of the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), the IEO Breast Unit also arose. Breast Cancer, therefore, becomes the driving and specific area of the Institute, bringing together the best skills for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The IEO has conceived and demonstrated the scientific and clinical validity of the most famous and effective surgical treatment techniques adopted today all over the world: - ROLL (radiolocation of non-palpable breast lesions), - the radio histological technique for the localization of the sentinel lymph node (albumin conjugated to Tc99) and the extensive intraoperative histological technique for biological examination - the nipple-sparing mastectomy, which in the case of mastectomy provides for the preservation of the areola and nipple complex, if free from disease - ELIOT In the recent reorganization, which involved the IEO clinical activity, the strength of the IEO Senology Program emerged which creates the ideal conditions for the personalization of the approach to breast cancer patients in the Italian and European environment.
