The Bellingham Regional Breast Center was founded in 1994 based on the expertise of Breast Surgeon Dr. Cary Kaufman, past president of the National Consortium of Breast Centers and past chairman of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. We were the first breast center accredited in Washington State by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. We care for approximately 75% of all breast cancer patients in our region collaborating with the clinicians at the Women's Diagnostic Center and Peace Health St. Joseph Medical Center. We are a problem focused breast center, able to diagnose and treat women with any breast disorder. Each patient has access to the interdisciplinary breast cancer conference. We counsel patients regarding all aspects of breast disorders, especially malignant tumors. We create a clear path toward resolution of those problems using 3-D mammography as well as MRI. Genetic counseling and testing is offered as well as high risk evaluation. Innovative techniques including partial breast irradiation, cryoablation and intraoperative ultrasound localization are available.
